• Panting = Hot, thirsty, or nervous.
• Growling, showing teeth, snapping = Upset. Give your dog space and tell an adult.

👂Dog’s Ears

• Ears forward = Focused, Calm.
• Ears backward = Nervous or listening.

🐕 Dog’s Tail

• Wagging Tail – Typically happy.
• Low Tail – Nervous or anxious.

Always be gentle, and never bother your dog if they seem upset or tired.

🦴Step 2: Gather Training Supplies

To train your dog, you’re going to need some tools.

• Tiny dog treats (about the size of a cheerio) 🍬
• Treat pouch, pocket, or bowl 👝
• Your dog 🐶
• A clicker (if you don’t have a clicker, a click pen will work) 🖊️

Once you have your supplies, you’ll want to find a quiet training place to practice.

🐾 Step 3: Practice Training the Dog

Training your dog with a clicker (or a click pen) lets you communicate with your dog.

1. Watch for your dog to do something you like. 👀
2. Press the clicker once. 🖊️
3. Get a treat out of your treat pouch. 👝
4. Toss it to the floor for your dog. 🍬

The click says “What you just did earned you a treat.”

Once your dog realizes that, they will start doing the thing you clicked more often.

Once your dog understands the clicker, they’ll start looking at you for a treat after they hear the click.

Now you can ask your dog to do something they already know (like “sit”)

1. Say the cue clearly—like “Sit!
2. Use the hand signal for sit
3. As soon as your dog sits, click!
4. Get a treat and drop it on the ground
5. Repeat 3–5 times, then take a break and play with your dog.

That’s how you train a dog, now you can try again with different skills that your dog knows really well!

✅ Tip: Be Kind, Not Bossy

Remember, your dog doesn’t understand you very well. He isn’t sure what you want, and he’s doing his very best to make you happy (and get treats).

Dogs learn best when they feel happy and safe.

So, no yelling, tugging on leashes, or getting mad if they mess up. Just stay calm, try again, and celebrate the little wins. Your dog wants to make you proud—they just need time to learn.

First, Get your dog interested in a magic wand.

1. Get a magic wand 🪄 (a spatula, stick, or spoon would also work).
2. Have your clicker finger ready.
3. Show your dog the wand by holding it in front of their nose.
4. Click right away when they look at it.
5. Repeat 5 times.

Next, you’ll want to start clicking when your dog touches the magic wand.

1. Hold the wand right in front of your dog and wait.
2. Click when your dog touches the wand!
3. Move the wand a little bit farther and try again.

Now you can magically move your dog around! Boom—you’re officially a dog trick master.
